Alberta Police Write 5,000+ Tickets Over May Long Weekend

May 22, 2013 9:24:00 AM

Alberta Traffic Violations may long weekendSpeeders were at the top of the list for tickets written this May long weekend. 5,039 in total across Alberta. One instance that made the news was that of a 15 year old girl driving nearly 190 km/hr on the QE2. She had no car insurance, no drivers license and it wasn't even her car.

This does mark a slight decrease from last years lengthy list of infractions, but we can still better. Last year's Victoria Day Long weekend produced 5,357 infractions by Alberta drivers. Here's how it all breaks down:

2013 May Long Weekend, Alberta Traffic Tickets/Violations

  • 5,039 total traffic tickets issued by Alberta's integrated traffic unit
  • 638 miscelaneous offences such as littering and failure to produce car insurance
  • 83 alchohol violations
  • 57 distracted driving charges
  • 16 24-hour license suspensions
  • 15 impaired driving charges

Did you manage to stay off of this list this past weekend? Have a decent driving record? Then we may be able to save you money on your car insurance. Find out here.
