Uber announced earlier this month that they are working with Intact Insurance to develop a new car insurance plan for ridesharing in Canada. Uber, who maintains that their Canadian rides are covered by $5 million in liability insurance, believes that this insurance plan will be the first of its kind in Canada. 

In response to the hail storms that hit Alberta on July 21, 2015, Aviva Canada has mobilized its CAT team to the area. They have dispatched appraisers and set up drive-in appraisal centres in Lethbridge, Calgary (two centres), Red Deer (two centres), Lacombe, Ponoka and Hinton to assess vehicle damage. In a recent bulletin Aviva has stated that "a significant number of claims, both auto and property, have already been reported to us." Their goal is to contact all customers within 24 hours, but because of the large volume of claims, Aviva expects to have delays in response time.

In a press release today the Government of Alberta warns passengers and drivers of the possible financial dangers of using the controversial Uber Ride Sharing Service.

Alberta is becoming a mecca for community gardens. This year there are nearly 300 active community gardens between Edmonton and Calgary alone. 

A Community Garden is a group of people coming together to nurture, develop and sustain a growing space in their community. It provides more than just fresh produce and plants for the neighbourhood. It creates a sense of community, neighbourhood improvement and a connection to the environment, especially for that don't have enough room to garden on their own property.

Up until last week it has been a fairly dry summer in Alberta. But, now that we're starting to get some much needed rain we're also seeing basement flooding, and in some areas (like Chestermere) severe flooding. Last summer, lightning struck this truck while travelling down Highway 2. It damaged the electrical system, set off 6 airbags, melted and burned portions of the body and filled the cab with smoke.
