Tech Outage Impacting Insurance Software Across Canada

Jul 19, 2024 9:55:00 AM

This morning a tech outage was announced impacting services across the world from banks to airlines. One of the largest insurance software providers in North America, Applied Epic, is also on that list. This software back ends nearly all information between clients and their insuring company. CrowdStrike has reported that the source for the outage is not the result of a cyber attack but rather an update that was pushed out to customers.

How is the Tech Outage Impacting Insurance Companies?

The outage is impacting one of the largest insurance softwares on the market. This means that many brokers currently do not have access to their client files to make changes to their insurance policies, print pink cards, or write a new insurance policy.

At Armour Insurance we have found avenues to be able to make policy changes, print cards, and issue new policies. Despite the outage, it is business as usual for Armour Insurance.

Insurance Apps May Be Down

Depending on how the app is developed and back-ended, the apps you use for your insurance company may not be working. The Armour Insurance app is back-ended by Applied Epic, which has resulted in the app being down temporarily.

Is My Data With Insurance Companies Safe, Even With the Outage?

First updates from Applied have not indicated any risk of data exposure as a part of the outage. The security of data remains a top priority for all parties. Armour Insurance's IT provider and cyber insurance providers are standing by to prevent any possible attacks on the system.

What is the Timeline For Getting the Outage Rectified?

CrowdStrike has not identified a timeline for the issue. As events change, we will make updates.
