As residents return to their homes in the voluntary phased re-entry of Fort McMurray, many are finding out for the first time, what exactly they have to come home to. Many will have damage to assess and some complete losses that they will need to report to their insurance company. Many insurance companies have already set up mobile claims centres in town and making concessions to make sure that they can do anything they can to make things easier for the victims of the fire.

Aviva Insurance

Aviva is encouraging their Fort McMurray customers to get in touch with their adjuster as soon they gain access to their home. Call 1 866 MYAVIVA (1 866 692 8482) to start the physical appraisal process.

  • Find tips in Aviva's post-evacuation checklist here.
  • Learn more about Aviva's Additional Living Expenses on their blog.
  • Call 1 866 MYAVIVA 24 hours a day for assistance, advice and to reach an adjuster who can answer your questions.

Economical Insurance

Our catastrophe response team will support Economical customers by assessing the damage to homes, businesses, and vehicles, and continue to provide emergency funds as needed.

On June 1, Economical will have a local command centre set up in Fort McMurray at the Stonebridge Hotel, open from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. MT, 7 days a week:

9713 Hardin Street

The province of Alberta has issued a special re-entry document  for residents of the Regional Municipality of Wood Buffalo. This information will help answer questions residents may have about the re-entry process. You can also find more information on the Economical website.

Customers who have not returned to Fort McMurray can still pick-up emergency cheques at our offices in Edmonton and Calgary between 8:30 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. MT, Monday to Friday:

Edmonton

Premier Notley has advised that the provincial state of emergency first declared on May 1, 2016 for the Fort McMurray wildfires will be extended by an additional 28 days until the end of June. In response to this Travelers Insurance will be automatically extending the qualifying policy types until July 31, 2016.

Wawanesa Insurance

In order to further assist policyholders in the Fort McMurray region who are unable to return home, Wawanesa Insurance will be extending the maximum time of coverage for Additional Living Expenses (ALE) arising from “Prohibited Access” to June 15th, 2016. Policyholders will now be able to claim for Additional Living Expenses incurred during the period of time in which access to their premises is prohibited by Civil Authority/Mass Evacuation Order, until June 15th, 2016. Coverage for Fair Rental Value loss will remain subject to the maximum two-week time frame outlined in the Policy.
