Auto insurance customers in Alberta are beginning to see the effects of the industries struggles this month. The AIRB has approved rate increases for insurance companies in Alberta, some of which have gone into effect at the beginning of November. This will leave many consumers wondering what can be done to ensure I'm getting the best value as the entire industry takes on a rate increase. That's where your broker comes in.

On Monday, October 4th Alberta's Superintendent of Insurance released three bulletins clarifying and updating rules on how insurance companies operate in our province. These notices replace various updates issued in 2016 and, if violated, could result in hefty fines for Insurance Companies doing business in Alberta.

There is no short term fix, but the industry is working with the Government towards a solution. With the Alberta auto insurance rate cap being lifted this September, insurance companies have applied for, and been granted, rate increases by the AIRB (Alberta Insurance Rate Board). We are expecting to see rate increases from all insurance companies on renewals and new policies starting in November.
